Your jewellery has been handcrafted with care, and with a little attention it can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Silver naturally changes over time and jewellery is designed to be worn, but a few simple habits will help keep your pieces looking their best.

Sterling Silver

All sterling silver will naturally tarnish over time as it reacts with the air, moisture, skin chemistry, perfumes, and everyday products.

This is completely normal and does not mean your jewellery is damaged or of less quality. I source my precious metals from Cooksongold, the UK’s main silver/gold supplier.

This is the same metal that is used by the casting company I use.

To help minimise tarnishing:

  • Store your jewellery in a dry place when not being worn.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.

  • Remove jewellery before swimming, bathing, or using hot tubs.

  • Apply perfumes, lotions, and hair products before putting on your jewellery.

  • Avoid contact with household cleaning products.

Regular wear can actually help keep silver bright, as the natural movement against your skin and clothing gently polishes the surface.

Gemstones and Pearls

Many gemstones are durable enough for everyday wear, but all stones can be damaged by impact.

To protect your jewellery:

  • Avoid dropping or knocking gemstone-set pieces.

  • Remove jewellery before heavy lifting, gardening, sports, or manual work.

  • Store pieces separately where possible to avoid scratches.

Pearls and softer stones require extra care and should be kept away from perfumes, hairspray, and cleaning products.

Cleaning Your Jewellery

For routine cleaning:

  • Use a soft polishing cloth to gently restore shine.

  • Wipe away fingerprints, oils, and everyday residue.

  • Warm water and a mild soap can be used when appropriate, followed by thorough drying.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, and aggressive polishing methods that may damage gemstones or alter surface finishes.

A polishing cloth is included with every order to help keep your jewellery looking its best.

Organic Textures and Handcrafted Finishes

Many Diem Jewellery pieces feature organic textures created through wax carving and traditional jewellery-making techniques.

These textures are an intentional part of the design and may soften slightly with years of wear.

Small variations and subtle differences between pieces are part of what makes handcrafted jewellery unique.

Storage

When not being worn, jewellery is best stored:

  • In its box or a jewellery pouch

  • Away from direct sunlight and damp environments

  • Separately from other jewellery to reduce scratching

Repairs and Maintenance

Jewellery experiences everyday wear, and occasionally pieces may need a little care along the way.
